eyelash extension faqs

Most frequent questions and answers about eyelash extensions.

Lash extensions are applied near the base of your natural lashes with a small amount of eyelash extension adhesive. We only use the best medical-grade, sensitive glues on the market with 4 or less ingredients to minimize irritations and sensitivity. The extensions or the glue will not come into contact with your skin or eyes, only directly on your natural lashes – it’s a non-invasive treatment. We use a hydrogel undereye pad during application to help keep your eyes closed throughout the process and also act as a barrier.

We have comfortable beds, ergonomic pillows, and calming music in a semi-private environment so that you can relax and catch up on some beauty sleep!

With the proper application techniques and aftercare, lash extensions will not cause damage to your natural lashes and you will be able to continue to refill your lashes without needing to take any breaks.

At Katie Cosmetics, we take natural lash health very seriously and perform the following to make sure that your lashes stay as healthy as possible:

  • Isolate every lash during application, so that no two extensions are glued together and will not damage your natural lashes or cause pain
  • Only use proper weights and lengths of extensions that your natural lash can support
  • Reassess the state of your natural lashes at every fill and adjust accordingly

We also expect that the client regularly cleanses their lashes at home and does not pick or pull at the extensions to ensure lash health.

If you are concerned about the state of your natural lashes, please talk to your lash technician so that she can explain further. We can also take pictures of your lashes to track their progress!

If you are getting lashes for a one-time event, it will take approximately 6 weeks for nearly all of the extensions to fall out.

If you would like to upkeep your lashes and keep them looking full, you will need to book a fill every 2-3 weeks with at least 50% of the extensions remaining.

If you have no lash extensions on currently, you will need to book a full set! We’ll start from scratch and create a brand new set of customized lash extensions for you.

A fill appointment can be booked for the upkeep of your lash extensions. At the appointment, we will first remove your outgrown extensions and then refill them along with any extensions that have fallen out since the last appointment. Fills should be booked within 2-3 weeks of your last service. Any appointment made past 3.5 weeks or having under 50% retention will automatically be considered a full set.

Classic sets are created with the application of one individual lash extension to one natural lash. It results in a natural, everyday look. The look is similar to if you had one layer of mascara on.

Hybrid is a 50/50 mix of individual extensions (used in classics) and fans (used in volume).

Volume set are created with fans, which are bouquets of many lashes applied together onto one natural lash. At Katie Cosmetics, all fans are handmade during your appointment and are customized to every single one of your natural lashes.

Yes of course! Please let your technician know at the beginning of your appointment so that she can work with you to determine which lengths will be comfortable to wear with your glasses.

Yes, but absolutely no mascara or falsies on top. Choose water-based over oil-based makeup to help your lash extensions last longer. For example, liquid liner is better than pencil or cream eyeliner because it dissolves in water and is easier to remove.

Please make sure that you remove your makeup at the end of the day with micellar water or another water-based makeup remover and cleanse your lashes thoroughly!

Yes, we use a gel or cream based remover specifically designed to dissolve eyelash extension glue. The whole process only takes 15-20 minutes and the formula is safe even for the most sensitive eyes!

Do not try any homemade methods as they are not very effective and may cause damage to your natural lashes.

You can reschedule or cancel any appointments you have booked online by yourself, up until 24 hours before the appointment start time. Cancellations within 24 hours of the appointment and no shows will be charged either a $50.00 cancellation fee, or half the service cost (whichever is lower).

Arriving late will cut into your appointment time, and will result in less full lashes. We reserve the right to consider the appointment a no-show, if you are more than 15 minutes late and the technician feels there is not enough time left to give you a quality service.
